’Marine Directive’

COM(2012) 662 is a Commission report on the ’Marine Strategy Framework Directive’ (Directive 2008/56/EC). The Directive aims to achieve Good Environmental Status of EU marine waters by 2020 and to protect the resource base upon which marine-related economic and social activities depend. The report assesses the Directive's contribution to the implementation of existing obligations, commitments and initiatives of the EU and its Member States in environmental protection of marine waters. It concludes that the Directive ’is now entering a crucial, phase in its implementation’.
