Foreign residents

According to figures published by Eurostat, nearly two-thirds of foreigners living in the EU are from outside the Member States. ’Statistics in focus’ 31/2012 shows that, in 2011, 33.3 million people in the EU were foreign citizens (6.6% of the total population). Of those 33.3 million, 12.8 million were EU citizens living in another Member State, and 20.5 million were non-EU citizens (4.1% of the total EU population).
