From 1 June 2012, organic products certified in the EU or the USA may legally be sold as organic in either region. Despite some differences between EU and US organic standards, the two parties have agreed that their rules are essentially equivalent. The exception is the use of antibiotics. Products traded under the new scheme must be verified as being free of antibiotics. Products must also be shipped with an organic export certificate, with details of the production location, the certifying organisation and other information.
