Animal welfare

COM(2011) 700 is a Commission Report ’on the impact of Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport’. Amongst other things, it concludes that the Regulation has had beneficial impacts on the welfare of animals during transport, and that there has been no impact on the volume of intra-EU trade in live animals. It identifies a number of actions to address problems identified, and commits the Commission to initiating a study on the welfare of live fish during transport.
